Official Launch of the Children’s Book Don’t Throw Me Away: A Tomato’s Tale
On October 2, 2024, the official launch of the children’s book Don’t Throw Me Away: A Tomato’s Tale brought together dozens of children and their families at Sofia’s Ring Mall.
A specially designed stage became the centre of a fun and educational event, where young visitors discovered how everyone can help reduce food waste by giving food a second chance instead of throwing it away.

One of the highlights of the event was the interactive workshop Join the Team of Food Savers, hosted by actress and director Denitsa Doncheva. Children eagerly took part in creative activities, learned about the life cycle of tomatoes, and designed their own unique tomato characters. The most enthusiastic participants were rewarded with special prizes.
Families also had the opportunity to meet Bilyana Konstantinova, the author of the book, and Anna Tsocheva, its illustrator. Together, they shared the story behind the creation of the book and spoke about its mission – to inspire children to develop a responsible attitude towards food and the environment from an early age.
Don’t Throw Me Away: A Tomato’s Tale addresses the important issue of food waste through an engaging story designed specifically for young readers. The project, created by the Mate Kitchen Foundation in partnership with Marmot Publishing House, encourages children to understand that even the smallest everyday actions can make a meaningful difference in protecting both food and the planet.

What We Did
Mate Bulgaria was responsible for the overall organisation and communication of the official book launch. The agency planned and coordinated every aspect of the event – from the stage design and program to the interactive workshop and the participation of both the author and the illustrator.
The team also developed the event’s complete communication package, including its visual identity, promotional materials, copywriting, and social media presence. Through thoughtful planning, creative storytelling, and engaging on-site experiences, Mate Bulgaria transformed the book launch into an inspiring educational event for children and parents alike, successfully communicating the book’s mission to reduce food waste and promote responsible food consumption from an early age.
